Nuvigil reviews
- Nuvigil has been a HUGE help for me. I take nortriptyline for my depression. It works better than anything else I’ve tried but it makes it impossible for me to get up in the morning. When my alarm goes off at 7am I feel like I’m being tortured. I take half a tablet of Provigil at bedtime (11pm). It doesn’t keep me from falling asleep but it does help me wake up alert at 7am. Without it, I’ll sleep until at least 11:30am. This may be an off-label use but it makes it possible for me to take my antidepressant AND get to school/work on time. Benita Dolce, April 1, 2011
- Felt like the energizer bunny! Within an hour I was racing around work. Pain I normally have(back surgery) disappeared but after 6 hrs when I slowed down finally, I ached everywhere! Karina Dinardo, November 9, 2012
- Second day on Nuvigil. I feel great! I took my first pill yesterday at around noon and I did not have trouble sleeping. I went to sleep a little later than usual because I could though! I feel more alert but I don’t know if I want to continue to take it everyday, that’s why I gave it a 9 out of 10. I woke up this morning pretty fatigued and I almost didn’t want to take it because I wanted to rest, obviously since I was fatigued. But once I took it, I felt great again! If you have MS and insurance wont cover it because it is not approved for use for MS patients, have your neuro file a claim to why it would help you! Don’t let insurance stand in the way. Everyone who has chronic fatigue due to MS should try this pill. Christian Buchta, October 5, 2012
- Had no life at all except pain and overwhelming fatigue for 10 years. Visited many doctors with no help at all. I am a scientist began tracking medicines that were in the pipeline – came across Provigil, looked like it was the one for me. When it became available I was first in line. changed my life completely; I was normal again; I could produce again and did to a stunning degree. 3 weeks ago, after 8 years, Provigil completely stopped working. I know all the obvious reasons but makes no sense, I am again existing with no quality to go forward. Am manically changing to Adderall while I try to figure this out. Jami Fleishman, July 15, 2010
- This is a wonderful medicine. Costly, but great. However, I have found that it is best to take it an hour before eating or if need be an hour AFTER eating. This medication changed my quality of life. Future downfall….if I decide to have kids. Then what? Consider this if you are thinking about having kids. Harriett Siqueiros, August 8, 2011
- I took this medicine for a month and it didn’t work for me at all. Jeanie Katzman, December 28, 2012
- I agree fantastic awareness however downside I became obsessive, mood swings and suicidal feelings. Now I have been offered Ritalin. Hope this works without side effects. Lenore Lybrand, April 17, 2012
- Most awesome medicine ever made. Non- addictive. Will be used more for MS, MD and Parkinson’s is much needed. Rosalinda Difalco, December 24, 2012
- Works well keeping me alert, no significant downer when drug wears off, can be used on an as needed basis. Cons: EXPENSIVE! Ted Lesley, September 29, 2011
- I can’t take Nuvigil daily because it is expensive so I use it on days when I need to accomplish important tasks (shopping, housework, social occasions, etc.). Having suffered from depression since my teens, and although my standard medicines help, Provigil is the only medicine ever that has made me feel “good”. I’m so happy my psychiatrist suggested this medication and I hope that it is approved for depression so that insurance companies will cover it. Clinton Schultheis, July 23, 2010
- I take 400mg/day for fatigue and mental fog. It helped a great deal although after 3 years it doesn’t work as well as in the beginning. I started taking 200mg/day and it didn’t help until I took it for 3 months. Increased to 300mg/day after 1 year and to 400mg/day after 2nd year. Javier Schuetz, February 6, 2012
- After the first 200mg dose, I experienced a powerful, irresistible and complete voiding of my bowel. It left me weak so I did not take any more for a full day. Then I took half a tablet (100mg) and experienced the same thing again. At a quarter dose (50mg) the same thing happened. I think Provigil is an excellent laxative. It gave (at all those doses) a moderate improvement in wakefulness for about two hours; it did not help with my cataplexy. Since then 40mg (4 x 10mg) of methylphenidate allows me to stay awake and alert and also eliminates attacks of catalepxy. Eve Moskowitz, July 31, 2009
- Only side effect for Provigil was a headache for the first week. Much more effective medication, better result and fewer side effects. Mickelsen, January 24, 2012
- Nuvigil helps my Multiple Sclerosis fatigue, but my drug insurance company won’t okay it because it’s an “off-label” use. My psychiatrist was actually the first doctor to prescribe it, which is also off-label use. It doesn’t give me great energy, but at least I don’t sleep all day. With depression AND MS I have a double whammy. I definitely know the difference when I don’t have it. Darren Jerry, January 27, 2011
- I was diagnosed with narcolepsy around 7th grade, and pretty much sleep through middle school. I took Ritalin about up to 10th grade which moderately helped me stay awake, but I still would always crash multiple times a day due to the fact that it doesn’t completely eliminate excessive sleepiness and trying to perfect your taking-schedule really is crucial with any narcolepsy prescribed medication. When my neurologist started me on Provigil, I was pretty shocked by the lack of side-effects it had, and it was a somewhat natural awake feeling as others have mentioned. I went from taking 2 (200 mg) pills a day to taking 2-3 (200 mg) pills a day depending on my schedule, exercise, or exam studying. Lenore Classen, June 2, 2011
- My first 30 days on Nuvigil (200mg x 2 daily) were literally a life changing event. I have never felt so energetic, awake, and constantly in a good mood in my life. However, after 30 days the effects started to wane and, after 90 days, I feel little benefit. I tried taking an additional 3rd supplemental dose of 100mg a couple of hours after my second daily dose of 200mg to see if the good results might return, but all I gained from the additional 100mg was a headache. There is a definite and very unfortunate tolerance problem with Nuvigil in my experience. Lenore Gemmill, December 24, 2010
- There are few drugs these days, developed for something useful and Provigil and Nuvigil are most useful for those of us with shift work disorder. Darren Suniga, February 24, 2009
Not effective for me, I took the 200mg once a day for 2 weeks. Did not have any reactions good or bad. Just no effect at all.
This is the best medicine I have ever been prescribed, I am fully awake all the time. I have never had a hard time sleeping. I work at a power plant, the only thing I notice, is sometimes my crew mates avoid me, other than that its great.
I was diagnosed with Narcolepsy about 18 months ago after battling constant fatigue no matter how much sleep I received at night or how many naps I took throughout the day. Nuvigil has changed my life! I take one pill daily, and I am able to live a normal life outside of the fog that I was constantly living in before my diagnosis. I had a lot of side effects when I first started taking Nuvigil which included headaches, dry mouth, cramping, nausea, loss of appetite, and dizziness, but those were nothing compared to being able to finally live my life fully for the first time! I felt like before I was swimming in murky water unable to see or function, and after the medication I can actually experience life and interact with people!
I have been on Nuvigil for about 3 months now and see a little bit of difference. Previously I was on Ritalin which worked pretty much the same as Nuvigil. My doctor is currently giving me a trial period for 150mg once daily. I take one daily at 6-8 am and it lasts me till around noon. I then start to crash and when driving I still have a hard time staying awake. My doctor says it is because I need a higher dosage and will hopefully be starting that the next Drs visit. I highly recommend Nuvigil if you can afford it but if not Ritalin in my opinion works just as well.
I was diagnosed a year ago. I have cataplexy as well. I’ve been taking 250mg daily of Nuvigil for about 8 months and I’m very happy with it. The only complaint is that (as another person said) it doesn’t last all day, I also crash out in the afternoon. If you have this problem I suggest eliminating idol time. I have noticed that if I keep myself busy I have no problem going through the day normally. I haven’t experienced any side effects whatsoever. Most of the other medications may keep you awake all day, but seeing as the side effects can be devastating for many people, I’ll take the extra effort to keep my idol time to a minimum and unlike the other medicines I’ve tried, I don’t feel like I need a higher dose every 3 months.
Works well at the right dose. I am not afraid to drive now and I don’t zone out at work anymore. That being said it is really a shame that it is entirely too expensive and I won’t be able to continue taking it. With my insurance, it is still about $190 per month or 3 house payments a year for me! WOW!
I’ve been on nuvigil 150mg for over a week now, I work rotating shifts at work five days a week. I have had several side effects that was not the best, however the benefit have outweighed the risk. I have noticed that I can actually stay awake and not have the overwhelming urge to sleep. Which to me is wonderful to able to funtion like a normal person again, I’m still tired though, but functioning, and at the end of the day that is all I can ask for!
best medicine I have ever taken. gave me my life back.
