• Nuvigil has been a HUGE help for me. I take nortriptyline for my depression. It works better than anything else I’ve tried but it makes it impossible for me to get up in the morning. When my alarm goes off at 7am I feel like I’m being tortured. I take half a tablet of Provigil at bedtime (11pm). It doesn’t keep me from falling asleep but it does help me wake up alert at 7am. Without it, I’ll sleep until at least 11:30am. This may be an off-label use but it makes it possible for me to take my antidepressant AND get to school/work on time. Benita Dolce, April 1, 2011

• Second day on Nuvigil. I feel great! I took my first pill yesterday at around noon and I did not have trouble sleeping. I went to sleep a little later than usual because I could though! I feel more alert but I don’t know if I want to continue to take it everyday, that’s why I gave it a 9 out of 10. I woke up this morning pretty fatigued and I almost didn’t want to take it because I wanted to rest, obviously since I was fatigued. But once I took it, I felt great again! If you have MS and insurance wont cover it because it is not approved for use for MS patients, have your neuro file a claim to why it would help you! Don’t let insurance stand in the way. • Had no life at all except pain and overwhelming fatigue for 10 years. Visited many doctors with no help at all. I am a scientist began tracking medicines that were in the pipeline – came across Provigil, looked like it was the one for me. When it became available I was first in line. changed my life completely; I was normal again; I could produce again and did to a stunning degree. 3 weeks ago, after 8 years, Provigil completely stopped working. • This is a wonderful medicine. Costly, but great. However, I have found that it is best to take it an hour before eating or if need be an hour AFTER eating. • I can’t take Nuvigil daily because it is expensive so I use it on days when I need to accomplish important tasks (shopping, housework, social occasions, etc.). Having suffered from depression since my teens, and although my standard medicines help, Provigil is the only medicine ever that has made me feel “good”. • I take 400mg/day for fatigue and mental fog. It helped a great deal although after 3 years it doesn’t work as well as in the beginning. • After the first 200mg dose, I experienced a powerful, irresistible and complete voiding of my bowel. It left me weak so I did not take any more for a full day. Then I took half a tablet (100mg) and experienced the same thing again. At a quarter dose (50mg) the same thing happened. I think Provigil is an excellent laxative. It gave (at all those doses) a moderate improvement in wakefulness for about two hours; it did not help with my cataplexy. • Nuvigil helps my Multiple Sclerosis fatigue, but my drug insurance company won’t okay it because it’s an “off-label” use. My psychiatrist was actually the first doctor to prescribe it, which is also off-label use. It doesn’t give me great energy, but at least I don’t sleep all day. • I was diagnosed with narcolepsy around 7th grade, and pretty much sleep through middle school. I took Ritalin about up to 10th grade which moderately helped me stay awake, but I still would always crash multiple times a day due to the fact that it doesn’t completely eliminate excessive sleepiness and trying to perfect your taking-schedule really is crucial with any narcolepsy prescribed medication. When my neurologist started me on Provigil, I was pretty shocked by the lack of side-effects it had, and it was a somewhat natural awake feeling as others have mentioned. • My first 30 days on Nuvigil (200mg x 2 daily) were literally a life changing event. I have never felt so energetic, awake, and constantly in a good mood in my life. However, after 30 days the effects started to wane and, after 90 days, I feel little benefit. I tried taking an additional 3rd supplemental dose of 100mg a couple of hours after my second daily dose of 200mg to see if the good results might return, but all I gained from the additional 100mg was a headache.
